Jesus Heals Many
January 11, 2026 | Matthew 8:14-17
Explore Jesus' healing ministry and what it reveals about His compassion for each of us individually, His unlimited power over sickness and demonic oppression, and the promise of complete restoration that awaits all believers.
Scripture Reading
When Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: "He took our illnesses and bore our diseases."
— Matthew 8:14-17 (ESV)
Key Points
Jesus Heals Peter's Mother-in-Law — While Jesus had compassion for the crowds, He never lost sight of the individual. This healing reminds us that Jesus cares for each of us personally and cares about our problems, big or small.
Jesus Heals Many — There are no limits to Jesus' healing power. He drove out spirits with just a word and healed all who were sick. He can heal one or heal them all—Jews, Gentiles, insiders, and outsiders alike.
Jesus Fulfills Biblical Prophecy — Matthew connects Jesus' healings to Isaiah's prophecy, showing that healing is a sign of God's kingdom. Jesus came as Messiah with healing in His hands, demonstrating the truth and reality of His kingdom.
Forgiveness is Guaranteed Now; Healing is Guaranteed Later — When we trust in Jesus, all our sins are forgiven immediately. But while Jesus can and does heal today, complete physical healing awaits the resurrection when there will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain.
Reflection Questions
Jesus cared for Peter's mother-in-law individually, even amid large crowds. How does it change your perspective to know that Jesus cares about every detail of your life?
Peter's mother-in-law immediately began serving after being healed. What does this teach us about the relationship between receiving from Jesus and serving Him?
How do you respond to the truth that "forgiveness is guaranteed now, but healing is guaranteed later"? Does this bring comfort or challenge to your faith?
Is there a burden—physical, emotional, or spiritual—that you need to give to Jesus this week? What would it look like to trust Him with it?
