About Our Church:
First Methodist Church Wetumpka (FMC Wetumpka) is historic church located in downtown Wetumpka, Alabama. We are part of the Global Methodist Church and have an average attendance of 150-200 on Sunday mornings and about 60 students (30 kids and 30 youth) on Wednesday afternoons. We are a loving church with a great kids program, Bible-centered messages, and a kind, welcoming atmosphere. We have been committed to sharing the love of Jesus with those within and outside the walls of our church since 1819.
Program Description:
Food! Fun! Biblically-based teaching and community building! The Bridge is a free, faith-based after school program on Wednesday afternoons during the school year for kids K-6th and youth 7th-12th grades designed to bring those who join in closer together and closer to God. Students also get to enjoy a snack, learn in ways that make sense to them, participate in age-appropriate activities (including crafts, games, and music), and more!
Schedule:
The Bridge runs during the school year (August – December and January – May). Opportunities are available to intern for each semester or the full school year.
- 2 pm - 3:15 pm Setup and Prep
- 2:15-3:15 pm Bus Pickup from Wetumpka area schools
- 3:15 pm - 5:15 pm The Bridge Program
- 3:15-4 pm Snack, Homework Help, Playground, etc.
- 4-4:45 pm Small Groups (kids break up into age groups for age appropriate lessons and activities)
- 4:45-5:15 pm Music and Choir
- 5:15 pm - 6 pm Dinner
- 6 pm - 7 pm Bible Studies & Childcare
- 7 pm - 7:30 pm Cleanup
*The full schedule lasts from 1 pm - 7:30 pm, but shifts are available and we are willing to work with your schedule if possible.
Job Description:
This is an unpaid internship with opportunities to lead lessons, games, crafts, small groups, help with setup/cleanup, etc. Dinner is included on Wednesday evenings.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- 10-15 hours per week (opportunities to work Wednesdays, Sundays, and behind the scenes weekly work)
- Help develop and plan weekly, special, and community events
Special Requirements:
- College students enrolled part or full time in the education program (or a similar program)
- Ministry Safe Training and Background Check (provided by FMC Wetumpka)
- While being a Christian is not a requirement, we do expect interns to be team players and to adhere our church rules and to show respect and integrity
- Ability to work as a team and always portray the church, staff, and ministry in the most positive light both within the church and in our community
- Relational and team building skills required
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills
