In this devotional, we reflect on the beautiful story of Jesus healing a deaf man with a speech impediment in the region of the Decapolis. When Jesus looked up to heaven, sighed deeply, and spoke the Aramaic word “Ephphatha” — “Be opened” — He did more than restore physical hearing. He demonstrated His power to open what is closed, to restore what is broken, and to give voice to those who have been silenced.
What areas of your life need to hear Jesus say “Be opened” today? Perhaps it’s ears that have grown deaf to God’s voice amid life’s noise, or a tongue that struggles to speak words of faith and praise. Jesus meets us in our brokenness, touches us personally, and speaks words of healing over our lives.
May this passage remind us that the same Jesus who opened deaf ears and loosened tied tongues is still at work today, opening our hearts to receive His grace and freeing us to proclaim His goodness.
